Klokd Privacy Policy
Effective and last updated: August 12, 2026
Klokd helps you understand and manage digital habits. This policy explains what information Klokd processes, why it is needed, when it leaves your device, and the controls available to you. We do not sell personal information or use your activity for targeted advertising.
1. Scope
This policy applies to the Klokd Android application, website and waitlist, and browser extension (together, the “Services”). It does not cover third-party websites, apps, or services you may open from Klokd. The Android app currently works without a Klokd account.
2. Privacy at a glance
Processed on your device
App usage history, sessions, notification-to-open signals, patterns, limits, guards, focus settings, sleep estimates, and generated insights are ordinarily stored and analyzed locally.
Sent for online features
When you request an AI feature, the app sends the relevant context for that request. If you separately opt in to product intelligence, Klokd also sends limited daily guard aggregates.
Not our business model
We do not sell or rent personal information, build advertising profiles from your usage, or use sensitive device activity for advertising.

3. Information we process
Android app activity
Depending on the permissions and features you enable, Klokd may process:
- installed app names, package identifiers, and app icons;
- app foreground and usage events, usage duration, launches, sessions, unlock/pickup patterns, and time-of-day trends;
- notification metadata needed to match a notification with a later app open, such as the originating app and event time;
- limits, timeboxes, guard rules, exclusions, focus sessions, check-ins, feedback, and actions taken on interventions;
- locally inferred patterns, screen-use-based sleep estimates, weekly summaries, predictions, and coaching results; and
- app version, build number, platform, request time, and a locally generated random installation identifier used by optional product intelligence.
We use this information to show dashboards and timelines, detect digital-habit patterns, estimate screen-use routines, apply controls you configure, provide reminders and widgets, generate requested coaching, protect our APIs, troubleshoot, and improve reliability.
Information Klokd does not seek
Klokd does not need your precise location, contacts, photos, microphone, camera, passwords, private messages, payment-card data, or text typed into other apps for its current features. The Accessibility Service is not used to record keystrokes, read passwords, or collect message or web-page content.
4. Android permissions and sensitive access
Android requires you to grant special access in system settings. Klokd explains the purpose before directing you there. You can decline optional access or revoke any permission later, though the related feature will stop working.
| Permission or access | How Klokd uses it |
|---|---|
| Usage Access | Reads app usage and foreground-event history to calculate screen time, sessions, launches, timelines, patterns, limits, and screen-use-based sleep estimates. |
| Accessibility Service | Detects the foreground app and relevant window or scroll changes so Klokd can display the guard or blocking experience you configured. It supports user-facing digital-wellbeing controls, not advertising or surveillance. |
| Notification Listener | Detects when an app posts a notification so Klokd can measure notification-driven opens. Klokd does not need or intentionally retain notification message content. |
| Notifications | Sends local reminders, focus or guard notices, and weekly-report prompts you enable. |
| Phone state | Detects an active call so overlays do not interfere with calls. Klokd does not record calls, access call audio, or collect phone numbers. |
| Internet | Checks for app updates and communicates with Klokd servers when you use online features such as AI coaching or enable optional product intelligence. |
5. Optional product intelligence
“Share guard outcomes” is off unless you choose to enable it in the app. When enabled, Klokd periodically sends daily aggregate records for Mindless Scroll, App Switching, Reopen Loop, Check-In Loop, and Launch Velocity guards to Klokd’s server. These records are associated with a random installation identifier rather than a Klokd account.
For each guard and local calendar day, a record may contain the guard type; counts of triggers, warnings, cooldowns, continued use, and leaving the app; whether the guard was enabled at the beginning and end of the observed period; observed and enabled duration; turn-on and turn-off counts; the date; app version; and platform. As with ordinary internet requests, our hosting infrastructure may also process technical request information such as an IP address, request time, and request headers for delivery, rate limiting, security, and troubleshooting.
This payload does not include app names, package identifiers, raw app-usage events, exact event times, browsing content, notification content, configured Limits, or configured Doses/timeboxes. We use the aggregates to understand guard adoption, reliability, and intervention outcomes and to improve guard behavior and defaults. They are not used for advertising.
You can turn sharing off at any time in Profile. Doing so stops future collection and removes the local product-intelligence queue. The random installation identifier remains only on your device so the app can locate previously uploaded records if you later choose “Delete uploaded data.” That deletion control sends the identifier to Klokd, permanently deletes matching guard-outcome aggregates from our server, turns sharing off, and then removes the identifier from your device.
6. AI coaching and automated insights
Core dashboards, pattern detection, guard decisions, and rich sleep analysis run on your device. When you actively request Klokie advice, a prediction note, an archetype explanation, or weekly commentary, the app sends the information needed to produce it. This can include dates, app names and package identifiers, usage minutes and hourly patterns, sessions or pickups, configured limits and timeboxes, guard interventions, detected patterns, recent trends, and coaching preferences.
Klokd’s server validates and transforms the request and sends relevant prompt context to Google’s Gemini API. Klokd’s current AI endpoints are stateless: we do not save submitted usage snapshots or AI responses in a Klokd user database. The result is returned to the app and stored locally. Infrastructure providers may process transient request data and technical logs, and Google processes prompts and outputs under the terms and privacy commitments applicable to the Gemini API.
AI output is automated and can be inaccurate. It is intended for general digital wellbeing and is not medical, mental-health, or other professional advice.
7. Subscriptions and Google Play Billing
Klokd may offer optional premium features through a recurring Google Play subscription. Google Play processes the transaction under Google's terms and privacy policy. Payment credentials—including card numbers, bank-account details, and billing authentication—are provided directly to Google and are not received or stored by Klokd.
To activate and maintain premium access, the app and Google Play Billing may process purchase-related information such as the product or subscription identifier, purchase token, order or transaction reference, purchase time, subscription status, acknowledgement status, renewal or expiry date, and cancellation or refund status. Klokd uses this information only to verify purchases, unlock paid features, restore purchases, prevent fraud, provide purchase support, and comply with financial or legal obligations.
Subscription billing, renewals, cancellations, payment methods, receipts, and most refunds are managed through your Google Play account. Klokd does not use purchase information for advertising or sell it to third parties.
8. Website and waitlist
If you join the waitlist, we collect your email address. We may also receive campaign parameters, referral URL, signup time, browser or device information, approximate country or region derived from a network request, and ordinary server logs such as IP address and user agent. We use these to operate the waitlist, prevent abuse, understand acquisition, provide beta access, and send launch or product updates.
The public website uses Google Analytics 4 and Google Consent Mode v2 to understand page visits, navigation, and campaign performance. Before you choose, analytics storage, advertising storage, advertising user data, and advertising personalization default to denied. If you accept, Google may use analytics and advertising cookies and process page URLs, referrer information, browser and device details, approximate location derived from network information, online identifiers, and interaction events. Consented measurement may also be used with Google Ads to measure campaigns for Klokd.
Klokd uses advanced Consent Mode. If you reject, Google Analytics and advertising cookies are not used, but the Google tag may send limited cookieless pings for aggregate measurement and modeling. These can include consent state, timestamps, user agent, referrer, whether a page URL contained ad-click information, and a random value generated per page load. You can accept, reject, or withdraw consent at any time through “Cookie Settings” in the footer. Rejecting also removes Google Analytics cookies accessible to this website. For more information, see how Google uses information from partner sites.
You can opt out of marketing using the unsubscribe method in the message or by contacting us. Transactional or support replies may still be sent when necessary.
9. Browser extension
The Klokd extension processes the browsing activity and friction-control settings needed for features you enable. Its activity data and settings remain in that browser’s local extension storage; Klokd does not receive them or sync them between devices. Your browser vendor may separately process installation, update, crash, or store-listing information under its own policy.
10. When information is shared
We disclose information only as needed:
- Service providers: hosting and database infrastructure (including Neon for optional guard-outcome aggregates), email or waitlist operations, Google Analytics for consented website measurement, app delivery and updates, Google Gemini for requested AI features, and Google Play for subscription billing and purchase management.
- Legal and safety: to comply with law or valid process, protect people and the Services, investigate abuse, or enforce terms.
- Business changes: as part of a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, or asset sale, subject to appropriate safeguards.
- At your direction: when you request sharing or clearly consent.
We do not sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or use app activity for targeted ads.
11. Storage, retention, and deletion
- Android app: local usage snapshots, settings, patterns, and insights remain until you delete them, clear app storage, or uninstall. Android backups may retain data if device backup is enabled.
- Optional product intelligence: local daily records remain until you turn sharing off, clear app storage, or uninstall; only the seven most recent days are selected for upload. Turning sharing off clears those local records but retains the random installation ID locally so you can delete past uploads from Profile. “Delete uploaded data” permanently deletes matching guard-outcome aggregates from our server and then clears that identifier. Otherwise, uploaded aggregates are retained only as reasonably necessary for longitudinal product analysis, security, and legal obligations, after which they may be deleted or de-identified.
- AI requests: Klokd does not intentionally persist request bodies or responses in a user database. Operational logs remain only as reasonably necessary for security, debugging, and legal obligations. Providers apply their own documented retention.
- Subscriptions: purchase tokens, subscription status, transaction references, and entitlement records may be retained for as long as needed to provide premium access, restore purchases, handle refunds or disputes, prevent fraud, and meet accounting or legal obligations. Google retains payment and order information under its own policies.
- Waitlist: signup information remains while the waitlist and launch communications are active, or until you request deletion, subject to legal, security, and suppression-list needs.
- Extension: local data remains until you clear extension storage or remove the extension.
12. Your choices and privacy rights
You can:
- review or revoke special access and permissions in Android system settings;
- use local features without requesting AI-generated content;

- delete local data through available Klokd controls, Android’s “Clear storage,” or uninstalling;
- clear extension storage or uninstall the extension;
- manage or cancel a subscription through Google Play's subscription settings;
- unsubscribe from waitlist marketing; and
- ask to access, correct, delete, restrict, or receive a copy of personal information we hold, or object to certain processing.
Rights differ by location. We may need information to verify a request. You may complain to your local data-protection authority, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising applicable rights.
13. Security, international processing, and children
Security
We use reasonable safeguards, including encrypted transport for production API requests and limited-purpose processing. No storage or transmission method is completely secure.
International processing
Providers may process information in countries other than yours. Where required, we rely on recognized transfer safeguards or another lawful mechanism.
Children
Klokd is a general-audience service and is not directed to children under 13, or the higher minimum age required locally. We do not knowingly collect a child’s personal information. A parent or guardian should contact us to request review and deletion.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Services or legal requirements change. We will post the revision here, update the date, and provide additional notice when a change materially affects privacy rights or our practices.
