Five useful patterns
A pattern is a repeatable shape in usage, not a diagnosis or a moral label.
- Danger window: use repeatedly rises during a particular time period
- Sticky session: a visit continues much longer than intended
- Reopening: the same app returns soon after it was closed
- Notification hook: use repeatedly follows a notification
- Switching loop: attention cycles through a familiar sequence of apps
Why the distinction matters
Two people can have the same daily total and need different tools. A timer may fit a sticky session, while a schedule may fit a danger window and notification controls may fit a notification hook.
Patterns are prompts, not verdicts
Usage data has context software cannot fully know. Klokd shows the evidence behind a detected pattern and asks the user to decide whether it is meaningful before creating a rule.
